Planting new ideas,
the continual quest for growth
We begin every healthcare design project by viewing the setting through the patient’s eyes because the patient is our ultimate client. This involves understanding the stressful multisensory environments that surround patients and the psychological factors associated with illness and hospitalization. These issues become the research platform for the application of evidence-based design theory to create beautiful and functional healing environments, each leading to a positive patient experience.
Our understanding of evidence-based design is demonstrated in Jain’s latest book, A Visual Reference for Evidence-based Design, the first book on this topic. Good design is informed by research. The design of “healing environments” quickly became an industry buzzword after publication of Jain’s book, Hospital Interior Architecture, in 1992, which promoted the concept of research-based design. She has guided thousands to the idea of designing the patient experience through her books, articles, lectures, and seminars.
The design of healthcare facilities evolves and adapts to ever-changing advances in technology, sustainability, organizational culture and performance. When we translate our client’s vision into a supportive setting that produces positive outcomes on many levels, a true “healing environment” has been created.
